UrgentMed sees accident injuries as walk-ins at its Davie and Plantation clinics, seven days a week — see the car accident care page for what the visit includes.

Where can I get a same-day evaluation after a car accident?

  • A walk-in clinic that bills PIP directly. For neck, back and soft-tissue pain, sprains, cuts, bruising and headaches without warning signs, a walk-in clinic with imaging on site can examine you, start treatment and document your injuries the same day.
  • Your own doctor — if the office can see you within 14 days of the accident. Many primary care offices cannot fit in a same-day visit or take an X-ray on site.
  • The emergency room — for the warning signs listed below. Do not wait for a clinic visit.

Both UrgentMed clinics see accident injuries as walk-ins seven days a week, so a Friday-night or Sunday collision is seen inside the 14-day window without waiting for a weekday.

Is there an accident clinic near me that bills Florida PIP directly?

Yes. UrgentMed bills your Florida auto insurer’s PIP directly at both clinics — Davie at 5149 S University Drive (Renaissance Plaza, just south of Griffin Road) and Plantation at 10199 Cleary Boulevard, Suite 10. The front desk opens the PIP claim with your insurer while you are being seen. The carriers and how the billing works are on the auto insurance and PIP page.

Florida’s 14-day rule

Under Florida’s PIP law (section 627.736, Florida Statutes), PIP medical benefits apply only if you receive initial medical care within 14 days of the accident. That applies to drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists covered by a Florida auto policy. Whiplash, back strain and bruising commonly appear a day or two after a collision — come in when symptoms start, and still inside the 14 days.

What the emergency medical condition finding means

PIP pays 80 percent of reasonable medical expenses. Medical benefits can reach the policy’s full limit only when a qualified provider determines that you had an emergency medical condition; otherwise a lower limit applies. That determination is made from the examination and documented in your chart. Both UrgentMed offices make it at the visit, and it is also available by telemedicine when you cannot come in.

PIP-covered care for whiplash and other crash injuries

  • Whiplash and neck strain — the most common injury after a rear-end collision.
  • Back pain, muscle strains and contusions from the seatbelt, steering wheel or dashboard.
  • Shoulder, wrist, knee and ankle injuries — imaged, splinted and braced on site.
  • Cuts, abrasions and glass injuries cleaned and closed during the visit.
  • Headache and minor head injury — screened for concussion and referred for imaging when the exam calls for it.

Medications are dispensed in the clinic, and braces, collars, crutches and other durable medical equipment are supplied at the visit under your PIP claim. When an injury needs more, you are referred on — orthopedics, physical therapy, MRI or neurology — with your records sent ahead.

What to bring

  • Your auto insurance card or policy number. If you own a car, your own PIP usually applies, even when you were a passenger or a pedestrian; if you do not, a household relative’s policy or the policy of the vehicle you were in may apply.
  • The police report or exchange-of-information slip, and the claim number if the insurer has opened one.
  • Photo ID and, if you have one, your health insurance card for any care PIP does not cover.
  • Who to send records to — your insurer, and your attorney if you have retained one — with your written authorization.

If PIP runs out or is denied while an attorney is handling your claim, treatment can continue under a letter of protection your attorney signs. This is general information about how Florida’s law works, not legal advice; speak with your insurer or an attorney about your specific claim.

When to go to the emergency room instead

  • Loss of consciousness, confusion, repeated vomiting or a severe headache after the crash.
  • Chest pain, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain that is getting worse.
  • Numbness or weakness in the arms or legs, neck pain with any of these, or an obvious deformity or open fracture.

If you think you may be having an emergency, call 911 — do not drive yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a same-day medical evaluation after an auto accident without an appointment?

Yes. Both UrgentMed clinics, in Davie and Plantation, see car accident injuries as walk-ins seven days a week, with imaging on site and Florida PIP billed directly.

Which car accident clinic near Davie or Plantation accepts Florida PIP?

UrgentMed Davie (5149 S University Drive) and UrgentMed Plantation (10199 Cleary Boulevard, Suite 10) both bill Florida PIP directly. Bring your auto insurance information and the accident report or claim number if you have one.

Does PIP cover whiplash care after a car accident?

Whiplash is the most common injury treated under PIP after a rear-end collision. PIP pays 80 percent of reasonable medical expenses when initial care starts within 14 days of the accident, and the emergency medical condition finding decides how much of the policy’s medical benefit is available.

Do I need a lawyer to be seen after a car accident?

No. You do not need an appointment, a referral or an attorney to be seen. If you have retained an attorney, records go to the office you name, with your signed authorization.

What if my PIP runs out or is denied?

Health insurance can be billed as secondary once PIP is exhausted — bring both cards. When an attorney is handling your claim, treatment can continue under a letter of protection your attorney signs.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency — chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, stroke symptoms — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
