Physician-supervised · evaluation first

Medical Weight Loss in Davie & Plantation

Medical weight loss at UrgentMed is a physician-supervised program, not a product. It starts with an evaluation and laboratory testing, continues with a plan built around your health history, and includes scheduled follow-up so that whatever is prescribed is monitored. Both Broward clinics run the program.

How the program works

  • Evaluation. Medical history, current medications, weight-related conditions, goals — and a conversation about what has and has not worked before. See the weight-loss consultation.
  • Laboratory testing. Baseline blood work on site to check the things that affect both safety and results: metabolic panel, thyroid, A1c and lipids, with others when the history calls for them.
  • A plan. Nutrition and activity guidance for everyone; prescription medication only when the evaluation shows it is appropriate for you.
  • Monitoring. Regular follow-up visits to review progress, side effects and labs, with a body composition scan at each visit so fat, muscle and visceral fat are tracked separately from the scale — and the plan adjusted.

Treatment options we evaluate you for

  • Semaglutide — a once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist prescribed for weight management when appropriate.
  • Tirzepatide — a once-weekly dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist prescribed for weight management when appropriate.
  • B12 and lipotropic injections — offered as part of a supervised program when clinically indicated.

Which option, if any, is right for you depends on your history, your labs and your goals — that is what the evaluation decides. Prescription medication is not appropriate for everyone, and the provider will tell you plainly when it is not.

Who the program is for

Adults who want a medically supervised approach to weight management — including people managing weight alongside conditions such as prediabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, where the same visit can address both. Blood sugar and A1c testing and blood pressure evaluation are done on site.

What the first three months look like

The rhythm matters more than any single visit. The first appointment is the evaluation and baseline blood work. Results are reviewed with you at a second visit, usually within a week or two, and that is where a plan is agreed — including whether prescription treatment is appropriate at all. From there, follow-up visits are scheduled rather than left to chance: each one reviews how you are doing, checks for side effects, repeats the laboratory work the plan calls for, and re-runs a body composition scan so that changes in fat and muscle are visible separately from the number on the scale. Plans are adjusted at those visits. Nothing here is a one-visit transaction.

Paying for the program

Coverage varies more than most people expect, and it varies by plan rather than by carrier, so the honest answer is that we check yours. The office visit and the laboratory work are ordinary medical services and are billed to your plan when you use insurance; whether a specific prescription is covered depends on your plan’s formulary and its own criteria, which the pharmacy confirms when the prescription is sent. Self-pay is available for the visit and for laboratory work if you prefer not to use insurance, and pricing is quoted at the front desk before anything is done. See the plans we accept for the full list, or ask when you call — nobody should start a program without knowing what it will cost them.

What to bring to your first visit

  • A photo ID and your insurance card, if you plan to use insurance for the visit or labs.
  • A list of current medications and supplements.
  • Records from any previous weight-management program, if you have them.
  • Recent laboratory results from another provider, if you have had blood work in the last six months — it can save a repeat draw.

Where we see you

Start with an evaluation

Programs begin with an in-person evaluation at either clinic. Call to schedule, or walk in and ask for a weight-loss or men’s health consultation — the front desk will set the visit up with the right provider.

Call to schedule

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment to start?

Call to schedule the evaluation visit, or walk in and ask for a weight-loss consultation; the front desk arranges it with the right provider.

Will I be prescribed medication?

Only if the evaluation and baseline labs show it is appropriate for you. Some patients are better served by a plan without prescription medication, and the provider will say so.

Is the program covered by insurance?

The evaluation visit and laboratory testing are billed as medical visits; coverage depends on your plan. Weight-management medication is covered by some plans and not others. Ask the front desk what applies before your visit.

How often will I be seen?

Follow-up is scheduled by the provider — more frequent at the start and when treatment changes, then at regular intervals for monitoring labs and progress.

Can I do the program at either clinic?

Yes. Both the Davie and Plantation clinics run the program, and your records follow you between them.
