Patient receiving a nebulizer breathing treatment

When wheezing or chest tightness will not settle with your inhaler, both UrgentMed clinics provide nebulizer breathing treatments on a walk-in basis, with oxygen-level monitoring and chest X-ray on site if it is needed. Tell the front desk you are having trouble breathing and you will be seen promptly.

What to expect at your visit

  • Say it at the desk. Breathing complaints are triaged ahead of the general queue.
  • Assessment first — oxygen level, listening to your chest, and how hard you are working to breathe.
  • Treatment during the visit, with reassessment afterwards to confirm you have improved.
  • A plan home — prescriptions where appropriate, what to watch for, and when to seek emergency care.

When to go to the emergency room instead

  • Struggling to speak in full sentences
  • Lips or fingertips turning blue or grey
  • Severe chest tightness that a rescue inhaler is not touching
  • Drowsiness or confusion with breathing difficulty
  • A child working hard to breathe, with the ribs pulling in — call 911

Frequently asked questions

Can I walk in for a breathing treatment?

Yes. Both clinics see wheezing and breathing difficulty as walk-in visits seven days a week. Tell the front desk immediately that you are having trouble breathing — you will be prioritised.

What is a nebulizer treatment?

Medication is turned into a fine mist that you breathe in through a mask or mouthpiece over roughly 10 to 15 minutes, to open the airways during a flare.

Will I be able to drive home afterwards?

Usually yes. Some people feel jittery or notice a faster heartbeat for a short time after the medication, which is expected and settles.

Can you refill my inhaler?

A provider can prescribe rescue and maintenance inhalers when appropriate after evaluating you. Bring the names of your current medications.

Do you treat children with asthma?

Yes, children with mild to moderate flares are commonly treated here. A child in significant distress should go to an emergency department.
