Weight-loss consultation with a provider

Every weight-loss program at UrgentMed begins the same way: a weight-loss consultation — a medical evaluation with a provider at the Davie or Plantation clinic. It is the visit that decides what — if anything — should be prescribed, and it is where the plan is built around your health rather than around a product.

What the weight-loss consultation covers

  • Your medical history, current medications and supplements, and any weight-related conditions.
  • Weight, blood pressure, vital signs and a focused physical examination.
  • A body composition scan — body fat, skeletal muscle, visceral fat and metabolic rate — as the baseline for tracking change beyond the scale, repeated at every follow-up.
  • A conversation about goals, previous attempts, and what a realistic, sustainable plan looks like for you.
  • Baseline laboratory testing collected on site — typically a metabolic panel, thyroid function, A1c and lipids.

What you leave with

  • A plan: nutrition and activity guidance, and a decision about whether prescription medication is appropriate for you.
  • Where prescription medication is appropriate, an explanation of the option the provider recommends for you, with the risks and side effects reviewed before anything is prescribed.
  • A follow-up schedule, so progress, labs and side effects are reviewed rather than assumed.

Conditions the weight-loss consultation addresses at the same visit

Weight and metabolic health overlap. The same visit can evaluate blood sugar and A1c and blood pressure, check a vitamin B12 level when the history calls for it — with B12 injections for a documented deficiency — and the provider coordinates with your primary care physician on request.

What to bring

  • A photo ID and insurance card if you will use insurance for the visit or labs.
  • A list of medications and supplements, and any recent lab results you have.
  • Records from a previous weight-management program, if any.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the consultation?

Plan on a full visit: history, examination, measurements and lab collection are done the same day. Results are reviewed at follow-up or by phone when they return.

Will I get medication at the first visit?

Only when the evaluation supports it and, for most patients, after baseline labs are reviewed. The provider tells you plainly when medication is not the right approach.

Do I need a referral?

No. Call to schedule or walk in and ask for a weight-loss consultation.

Is the consultation covered by insurance?

The evaluation and laboratory testing are billed as a medical visit; coverage depends on your plan. Weight-management medication is covered by some plans and not others. Ask the front desk before your visit.

Can my primary care doctor be kept informed?

Yes. With your consent, visit notes and lab results are sent to the physician you name.
